Description

This catalogue complements the exhibition, "Steven Trefonides: Secrets," held at the Tides Institute & Museum of Art in Eastport, Maine, from August 18 - September 18, 2016. Guest curated by Martha W. Lewis, Secrets is a retrospective of the artist's career. Steven Trefonides is considered to be part of the Boston Expressionist movement and was part of a group of artists from the city who spent time in Lubec, Maine, throughout their careers. Paintings, drawings, and photographs from the 1960s to the early 2000s are featured, as well as works by other artists who were active during the same time period in both Boston and Lubec.  The catalogue contains images from the exhibition, a list of works exhibited, a biography of the artist and essays by Martha W. Lewis and Hugh French, director of the Tides Institute. Generous support for this exhibition and catalogue come from private funders, the Hamilton Cove Fund and the Washington County Fund, both of the Maine Community Foundation
